Virgin River Soundtrack Guide: Every Song That Plays On The Netflix Show (& Where To Buy The Soundtrack) (2025)

One Netflix's biggest hit series, the romantic drama Virgin River has been sweeping audiences off their feet since 2019, and a big reason for that is its stellar soundtrack. Taking place in the titular Northern California town, Virgin River's original music by Jeff Garber sets the small-town vibes, alongside the soundtrack's perfect blend of mellow acoustic tunes and radio hits. Virgin River's music has been encapsulating the show's feel-good mood for six seasons, and shows no sign of slowing down, as Virgin River will be coming back for season 7.

Virgin River stars Alexandra Breckinridge as Mel, a nurse and midwife who moves from Los Angeles to the fictional town of Virgin River for a fresh start after the death of her husband and child. While navigating the small town life, Mel finds love with a bartender named Jack (Martin Henderson), and contends with a cantankerous doctor, affectionately known as Doc Mullins (Tim Matheson) to the town’s residents. The music in Virgin River accompanies Mel’s journey as she finds new love and new life, and fans of the show have a few options for listening to the soundtrack.

The soundtrack for season 5 of Virgin River starts with a celebration of a few nostalgic classics. The Fleetwood Mac ballad “Songbird” features heavily in episode 2 (and is also the episode’s title), as Mel conjures up memories of her mother. Naturally, Earth, Wind, & Fire’s dance tune “September” has everyone getting down on the dance floor in episode 3. The final two episodes of Virgin River season 5 feature a festive playlist of holiday classics as the gang celebrates Christmas, including traditional hits by Norah Jones, Michael Bublé, and Stevie Wonder.

Mel and Jack finally tie the knot as this season of Virgin River has them make wedding preparations. Al Green’s hit love song “Let’s Stay Together” plays as the couple practice their wedding dance in episode 1, and the song “Heavenly Day” by Patty Griffin is the perfect tune for Jack and Mel’s perfect day, with Doc walking Mel down the aisle in the season finale. The new husband and wife share their first dance as Mel’s bio dad Everett performs “This Heart of Mine” by Wesley Schultz with The Promised, a band that featured heavily throughout the series.

Though it may only be about a minute and half long, the theme song of Virgin River is instantly recognizable by fans of the show. Written by composer Jeff Garber," Virgin River Main Title" plays in each episode of the show, as the title appears over a gorgeous scenic view of a winding river and thick forests of green trees. The track begins with the strumming of an acoustic guitar, and then is joined by a piano before a string orchestra chimes in.

Garber composes all the music for Virgin River. The composer’s past credits include shows like the ABC series The Company You Keep, the CW’s Nancy Drew, Netflix’s Pretty Smart, and TV Land’s Lopez, among others. He was also an assistant composer for the Hulu/Marvel series Runaways, and the show The Kids Are Alright, among others
